Jens Bangsbo (Denmark)« Training of the top-class football player »
Jens Bangsbo is professor in exercise physiology at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He is the leader of a research group focusing on muscle metabolism, ion transport and fatigue development in relation to physical activity and training. He is Head of Science at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports Sciences, and a member of the Faculty of Science research board. He is the leader of the research group “Integrative Physiology” and of “Center of Team Sport and Health, and until recently the chairman of the Ministry of Culture Research Board for Sport in Denmark. He has published more than 300 scientific articles and more than 20 books including some within tactical training in football. In addition, he is the editor of a number of books regarding sport and science and he is a member of the international steering group of “Football and Science”.

Aaron Coutts is a Professor in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He has published more than 150 scientific papers which focus on improving our understanding of the factors that affect performance in team sports. Aaron has specific interest in conducting applied research and providing evidence-based recommendations for athlete monitoring, performance analysis and training design with specific focus on team sports. Aaron currently consults to several top-level professional sporting teams and is a member of International Advisory Board for the Nike Sports Research Laboratory. Aaron has also been the recipient of an Australian Teaching and Learning Citation for outstanding contributions to student learning. Aaron is a Director of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) and is an accredited sport scientist. University of Technology Sydney

Brian Dawson is a Professor of sport and exercise physiology in the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health at the University of Western Australia, where he has been based since 1982.He has over 240 journal papers in print, many concerning the physiology of intermittent high intensity exercise in the football codes and other team sports. In the (Australian) football world he was the Fitness Coach from 1988-2000 for the West Coast Eagles FC (AFL), and currently continues as a research consultant to them, has a Level 3 Australian Football coaching accreditation and has been an assistant and Senior coach with Swan Districts FC in the WAFL (State League), taking the Reserves (2006) and Senior team (2010) to Premierships. In 2011 he coached the WAFL State team and from 2013-15 was Senior coach of East Perth FC (WAFL), taking them into the finals in each season. Barry Drust has an expertise in football science which is a product of my academic research and my practical experience within the sport. I am currently a Professor in Applied Exercise Physiology and have published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles in the area of exercise physiology. I currectly act as a sport science consultant to Liverpool Football Club and have until recently supported the England Senior Mens Football team. I am also actively involved in directing the research related CPD of a number of other staff at clubs in both the Premier and Football League and national football associations. I also have good links within the sports industry providing expert knowledge to companies such as Nike and Catapult. Liverpool John Moores University

Jan Ekstrand, Professor in Sports Medicine, team doctor of the Swedish national team in the eighties and nineties and currently vice-chairman of the UEFA Medical Committee. As director of the Football Research Group in Sweden, Ekstrand has carried out a series of studies on the risk of injury on artificial turf, which provide useful and relevant scientific data. Moreover he is professor in Linköping University Hospital.

Koen A.P.M. Lemmink is a professor in sports, performance and innovation at the Center for Human Movement Sciences of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Tim Meyer (Germany)« Cardiac Disease and Soccer: Who is at risk ? Why can soccer be dangerous? »Prof. Dr. med. Tim Meyer studied medicine and sport science at the universities of Hanover and Göttingen, Germany. Besides his German exams in both subjects he passed the American medical exam. Meyer started his medical work at the Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine in 1996, wrote his doctoral thesis in Göttingen about endurance training with panic patients. His habilitation thesis at the University of Saarland was about applications of gas exchange measurements. In 2007 he followed a call of the university Paderborn as chair for Sports Medicine. In October 2008 he was called as chair of the Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine of Saarland University. Meyer´s focus of research are medical aspects of football, exercise physiology (particularly recovery) and training prescription. Under his supervision, several training studies were conducted in elite and health-oriented athletes among them many soccer players (altogether over 150 publications as author or co-author in internationally referenced peer-reviewed journals). Besides his university work, Meyer works as team physician for the German soccer association (DFB), since 2001 as part of the national squad´s medical service team (including the World Cups 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 as well as the European Championships 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016). Together with Franco Impellizzeri, he serves as Editor-in-Chief for the only football-specific scientific journal worldwide, Science and Medicin in Football. At his institution at Saarland University he hosts an international PhD program entitled „Science and Health in Football“. |
